California Nursery saves time with Remote Tank Level Monitoring

T-Y Nursery is a wholesale grower operation that provides a wide range of plants that are sold across the United States. The nursery has four growing grounds on over 800 acres across Southern California and offers over 700 varieties of plants.

Challenge
T-Y Nursery is challenged with reducing the costs of their growing operations while maintaining safe and environmentally friendly practices. Having a consistent inventory of diesel fuel at each of their sites is crucial in order to run the equipment and grow quality plants. Like most growers, T-Y Nursery monitored their diesel tank levels locally by having a site supervisor check the levels with a stick. Their major concerns are reducing unnecessary travel, improving the accuracy of measurements, and knowing what their fuel inventory is when the site is unattended.

“We had to know when our diesel tanks needed to be refilled. Using a stick to measure all the tank levels was tedious” said the T-Y Nursery Management.

Solution
In 2022, T-Y Nursery installed the TankScan cellular tank monitoring system at their four locations across Southern California. The cellular tank monitoring system leverages existing wireless cellular infrastructure and the AquaPhoenix Intelligence Platform (AIP) cloud software application to eliminate large start-up and setup costs associated with typical SCADA systems. The installation is quick and simple. It requires screwing the monitor into a 2” port on top of the tank and plugging in the battery. The AIP cloud application is set-up set up by TankScan Customer Support for customers and offers unlimited users, historical trending, and email/text notifications.
Accurate tank level measurements are conveniently viewed using a web browser from the customer’s own cell phone or office PC. The system is cost-effective due to its use of existing internet infrastructure for communications and customers’ already owned devices to access tank level information.
